Yoga Reclaimed, in its origin my mission was simple, I wanted to offer something that was unique and felt authentic for the people in the community. For me personally I really wanted to break out of what I was doing and explore my own true potential. I felt at the time I was on a journey of reclaiming myself and what my yoga practice meant to me. I also had a sense that I wanted to reclaim what I felt yoga was really about in my own eyes. Of course like all things - it has evolved. Through a long journey of growth with so many highs and some lows, we find ourselves in the midst of transformation.
Some times we choose to grow on our own, other times growth is forced upon us. For many years I had a lot of growth thrown my way. I did my best to manage it all through my practice and continuing to show up and teach the best way I could in the moment. I cannot say it has all been perfect. It is a journey I am grateful for and truly feel so honored and blessed to have the experiences I have had over the last 7 years.
I chose the idea of Yoga Reclaimed for many reasons. Some of it was personal, some of it was practical. I wanted to reuse materials to build our space as much as possible. It afforded an opportunity I never would have imagined. It sparked something within me to help with the build out of the space and to plant a seed I would later tap into. We have used a lot of reclaimed wood to decorate and construct the studio space. We love our space so much and hope you get a chance to come see it in person. It is full of character and life from living plants, local art and so much more.
The yoga portion of Yoga Reclaimed has been a journey that started with the traditions of Bhakti yoga and has grown and evolved in so many ways. My wife Jamie and I have been working since day one to offer the practice that speaks to us and to steep our lives and practice in the traditions of yoga. For us that means a daily practice of Ashtanga yoga with sprinkles of many other influences that help us create and offer a practice that we can stand by and feel proud to offer.
When reflecting back we have so many memories, so many people have passed through our doors to help reclaim something in their lives, or something in their bodies. Without a doubt we have been blessed to share in so many of these experiences. I have been offering yoga to the Auburn community for over 12 years and we cannot think of a better place to call home. The many great friendships and relationships we have been blessed to be a part of is such a gift. We look forward to serving this community the best that we can for another 12 years! We look forward to seeing you on the mat very soon. When you are ready, we are here.
